This isn’t just a console for 4K TV owners, though. Games developed for Scorpio will have customisable graphics settings for all types of displays, so even if you only have a 1080p TV you’ll still be able to ask your Scorpio to render everything in UHD and then downscale it to 1080p for the sharpest gaming experience you’ve ever seen. Or, for better performance, you could just amp up the graphics settings but keep the resolution at 1080p.
2004 saw the release of highly rated exclusives Fable and Ninja Gaiden, both of these games would become big hits for the Xbox. Later that year, Halo 2 was released and became the highest-grossing release in entertainment history, making over $125 million in its first day and became the best-selling Xbox game worldwide. Halo 2 became Xbox Live’s third killer app after MechAssault & Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six 3. That year Microsoft made a deal to put Electronic Arts’s popular titles on Xbox Live to boost the popularity of their service.
When Xbox One first launched, the Kinect motion sensor and microphone was in every box – and the price was high. Now you have more choice. Very few new games are utilising Kinect. But if you like the idea of controlling your console with your voice and hand gestures, it could be worth the extra cash.
FatBulldog June 14, 2016, 7:14 am What next generation memory? HBM? 2015 calling already happened? DDR5? Been out. What is this “next generation memory you speak of? All im seeing is you defending your console purchase by speaking nonsense. If you are going to pull random shit out of your ass at least post what this next gen memory is first. What it does. Its GPU is Nvidia’s 233 MHz NV2A. It has a floating-point performance of 7.3 GFLOPS, capable of geometry calculations for up to a theoretical 115 million vertices/second. It has a peak fillrate of 932 megapixels/second, capable of rendering a theoretical 29 million 32-pixel triangles/second. With bandwidth limitations, it has a realistic fillrate of 250–700 megapixels/second, with Z-buffering, fogging, alpha blending, and texture mapping, giving it a real-world performance of 7.8–21 million 32-pixel triangles/second.
2013 Xbox One Revealed Microsoft unveils the new Xbox One console at a special event that is streamed online across the globe. Xbox One is presented as an all-in-one entertainment device that must be connected to Kinect and the Internet to operate properly – an approach Microsoft later changes following a backlash from fans. May 2013 Second Hand Game Lockdown Rumours suggest that game retailers will be forced to sell second hand games at just a 10% discount on the original RRP. This comes amid speculation from a statement from Microsoft who said that each game will use a code that locks it to the owner’s account – giving the tech giant complete control over the second hand games market. May 2013 UK price announced at E3 Xbox One and its first batch of games, which include Forza 5 and Ryse, are seen in more detail at E3 2013. A UK launch price of £429.99 is announced. All launch Xbox One bundles are to include a 500 GB console and a Kinect sensor. June 2013 Xbox One drops always-online In response to gamer backlash, Microsoft announces that Xbox One will not require the Internet or restrict use of second-hand games. “You can play any disc-based game without ever connecting online,” say Microsoft. lmao that’s what I said. Notice, each console keeps pushing 6 teraflops and Console gamers believe that will give them 4k gaming, but 6 TF doesn’t mean 4k. 6 TF only mean that developers have more room to develop bigger and more complex environment because they have more floating points to play around with.
Xbox OneThe Xbox One isn’t your average games console; it’s a full-on entertainment system. Using its groundbreaking Kinect voice commands you can switch between watching TV, playing the latest video games and chatting to mates on Skype simply by speaking. You can even set it to record and share your gaming highlights online, or just show off your skills in the moment. If you’re short on decent competition and signed up to Xbox Live, you can use Smart Match to get paired up with the right challenger. The Xbox One takes the gaming experience to the next level, with better-than-ever interactivity and cutting-edge tech. It’s essential piece of kit for any serious gamer, and a great addition to a home entertainment set-up.
To be clear, then: Project Scorpio doesn’t feature Ryzen cores, but the Xbox team are not so concerned about this. “On the CPU side of things, we could still meet our design goals with the custom changes we made,” Kevin Gammill points out. “At the end of the day we are still a consumer product. We want to hit the price-points where consumers want to purchase this. It’s about balancing the two.”
Black, white or limited editions Xbox One is slowly becoming available in more colours, after launching in black only. As well as the Xbox One S available in white, you can get limited edition consoles available in blue, silver and more.

Games: In addition to the latest gaming consoles and the Xbox Live experience, we also offer all of the newest games for Xbox One and Xbox 360. With the titles topping everyone’s list, including your own, at Microsoft we can help you find new ways to play.
Navigate with a controller or Kinect When Xbox One first launched, the Kinect motion sensor and microphone was in every box – and the price was high. Now you have more choice. Very few new games are utilising Kinect. But if you like the idea of controlling your console with your voice and hand gestures, it could be worth the extra cash.
But what’s likely to be most controversial is the indication that the Xbox One will follow the smartphone model of regular iteration, with updated hardware versions going on sale throughout its lifetime. In the past, console manufacturers have often tweaked the hardware within a generation, but usually only to make certain components more efficient. Xbox One would become a new kind of hybrid device, effectively a living room PC in the same space that Valve’s Steam Machine is currently trying to occupy. The question becomes: is that what console owners actually want?
This is, he explained, the culmination of the company’s vision over the past year. In January 2015, Microsoft announced that it was bringing an Xbox app to Windows 10 PCs, allowing cross-platform play and a cohesive friends list across both platforms. Then, in November, the Xbox One was updated to be compatible with Windows 10, bringing a new interface and features to the console. In late-January, Microsoft chief executive Satya Nadella told attendees at the dotNet conference in Madrid that UWAs would be coming to Xbox One, but did not specify in what capacity.
500GB or 1TB storage There are two versions of the Xbox One console available – one with 500GB of storage and one with 1TB (terabyte). Given how important game downloads and updates are, you’ll probably want as much storage as your budget can stretch to. There is also the Xbox One S to consider. The XBS is 40% smaller than the Xbox One and comes with a 2TB hard drive.
Downsampling to 1080p is an important point. Regular Digital Foundry readers will know that we’ve been vocal about all PS4 Pro modes being available to all users, regardless of the display attached to the console. Performance modes should be accessible to 4K users, while ultra HD rendering should super-sample down for those 1080p displays. Microsoft takes care of this at the platform level, and it requires that all titles should run at the same frame-rate or higher as the standard Xbox One.
Processing draw calls – effectively telling the graphics hardware what to draw – is one of the most important tasks the CPU carries out. It can suck up a lot of processor resources, a pipeline that traditionally takes thousands – perhaps hundreds of thousands – of CPU instructions. With Scorpio’s hardware offload, any draw call can be executed with just 11 instructions, and just nine for a state change.

In this latest episode of us replaying Red Dead Redemption, we return to the task of becoming a Legend of the Old West, a feat that can only be achieved by knife fighting a bunch of wolves, collecting red sage, and shooting a bunch of birds from a moving train. Try explaining that one to the conductor.
Windows 10 and Xbox One play nice At a Windows 10 media briefing, Microsoft unveils the deep integration between Xbox One and Windows 10. Xbox One can stream games to PC and tablet over a home network, so gamers can play anywhere in the house. January 2015
“And it naturally includes several first-party titles, such as the aforementioned Forza 7, Crackdown 3, and State of Decay 2. But it also contains a few heavy-hitting, third-party titles.
We can safely assume this approach will also apply to the Scorpio, making it look even more likely that actual hardware upgrade cycles will become much shorter, like that of PC components, but with consumers able to stick with their current console for multiple years before it’s gradually phased out. All speculation of course, but a logical step nonetheless.
I think comparing pc gaming to consoles is an old and irrelevant argument. I think if your a sole gamer, pc gaming is great. However, I personally find sitting on my comfortable couch, laying back, gaming on my 65inch 4K tv with HDR and $5000 surround sound system with my family to be a far superior experience. Bringing a new Xbox Scorpio with this kind of gaming power is a dream come true.

The message pushed by Spencer is that “no one gets left behind”, so as Scorpio pushes things forwards, Team Xbox is keen to ensure that the humble Xbox One gamer doesn’t feel they have to go out an buy a new console to keep up. Equally, those who do get Scorpio will still be using the same services as they do now and be part of the same Xbox Live community.
Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition brings the acclaimed 2011 shooter to Xbox One with prettier graphics, all its previous DLC, and a new game mode called Overkill. It’s a great chance to get reacquainted with Bulletstorm hero Grayson Hunt, although, considering what a total jerk he is, you might be reconsidering spending any more time with him. At least he’s in good company, as we find out later in the Show.
During a press event in San Francisco last week, Spencer said that the Universal Windows Platform, a common development platform that allows apps to run across PC, Xbox, tablets and smartphones, would be central to the company’s gaming strategy. “That is our focus going forward,” he told reporters. “Building out a complete gaming ecosystem for Universal Windows Applications.”
We recently recalled the achievements that took more planning than a piss-up in prohibition-era Pittsburgh, and asked if you had any of your own tales of cheevos that put you through organisational nightmares. The answer was yes, you definitely did have those. For which, see these achievements submitted for your consideration in the comments of that earlier video.
“For 4K assets, textures get larger and render targets get larger as well. This means a couple of things – you need more space, you need more bandwidth. The question, though, was how much?” asks Nick Baker, Distinguished Engineer, Silicon. “We’d hate to build this GPU and then end up having to be memory-starved. So all the analysis that Andrew was talking about, we were able to look at the effect of different memory bandwidths, and it quickly led us to needing more than 300GB/s memory bandwidth. So in the end we ended up choosing 326GB/s. On Scorpio we are using a 384-bit GDDR5 interface – that is 12 channels. Each channel is 32 bits.”
Customer Reviews Lightweight, snappy, a breeze! by Ibu666 Having used the Xbox app (again) since picking up a One S over Christmas. I have found it to be a delight to use, nice and easy. The only issue which is also a console issue is the storefront and it’s inability to update game sales on the app. However it’s much more pleasant method of purchasing games without problems. It would be great to have a GWG section or even notification that updates you on the newer releases. Constantly crashes by howlingcrazy Another update pushed through that has failed to address the issues some users have been having with the app just crashing on launch. I got excited there was an update and installed it straight away yet I luck. Uninstalled and rebooted phone only for the same darn thing to happen again. Disappointed to say the least. Come on Microsoft sort this out please. iPhone 6plus user however it works fine on my iPad Air 2. The best app in history by Jamie the bo3 beast I am in love with this app I’ve had an Xbox one since day one and soon I found a great app, this one!!!
The Scorpio uses an eight-core processor, likely from AMD although not officially stated, running at 2.3GHz. Seasoned PC gamers might not think this sounds like a lot and, indeed, it isn’t. But keep in mind console processors are packed into an incredibly tight space, and more GHz means more heat. This is still a substantial boost over the Xbox One, whose eight cores ran at 1.75GHz.

For the record, ESRAM is indeed surplus to requirements in the Scorpio design, as we revealed a couple of months back. “The memory system we’ve got, we’ve got enough bandwidth to more than cover what we got from ESRAM,” explains Nick Baker. “We simply go and use our virtual memory system to map the 32MB of physical address that the old games thought they got into 32MB in the GDDR5. So latency is higher, but in terms of aggregate performance, the improved bandwidth and improved GPU performance means we don’t hit any issues.”
